  • NEWS: Keeping the Memory Alive

    The family of Dr. Laurie Miller Spencer, who was murdered in March by her ex-boyfriend while she was sleeping, recently established a memorial scholarship fund in her honor. Spencer, a graduate of the Levittown School District, has many local family members and friends who wish to help others the way Spencer did throughout her life. FULL STORY

  • NEWS: WNV Positive Bird Found in Levittown

    The New York State Department of Health recently identified three additional birds which tested positive for West Nile Virus (WNV). The birds, two found in Levittown, bring Nassau County to a total of eight birds which have been found throughout the course of the summer. FULL STORY

  • SPORTS: Division Post Season Honor Winners

    This past baseball season, the Division Ave. HS baseball team posted a very commendable 16-6 record. As good as this record appears to be, it was a much stronger showing than it appears. Of Division's six losses, three were by one run, two were by two runs, and the one playoff loss was in extra innings. In almost all of those six games Division out hit their opponents, and had more men in scoring position than the team that beat them. As one of the players on the team was quoted as saying at season's end, "We were six hits away from being undefeated." Much truth is said in jest, and that was so true. FULL STORY

  • SPORTS: Island Trees Baseball Player Congratulated

    The Island Trees High School baseball coaches would like to congratulate Greg Thomson for being selected to the All-State team for the second consecutive season. Thomson, who will be a senior in September, hit .446 this season with seven homeruns and 36 RBIs while playing tremendous defense in centerfield. He was also 7-0 as a pitcher, with 78 strikeouts in 48 innings and an ERA of .43. Thomson was named to the first ever All Long Island team, and was named the MVP of the Nassau County Playoffs while leading the Bulldogs to a county championship. He is being heavily recruited by many Division I colleges and has drawn serious interest from many pro scouts. FULL STORY
