Universal Pre-K Not Funded in 2001-2002 Budget
The Administration and the Pre-K Policy Advisory Board of the Island Trees School District worked very hard, from March through May to study all aspects of the Universal Pre-Kindergarten Grant. After holding a district-wide public hearing on May 22, 2001, the committee unanimously recommended to the board of education to offer the program for Island Trees Preschoolers starting September 2001 pending funding from New York State in the 2001-2002 education budget.

Levittown Summer Remediation Program Completes Second Year
This year marked the second summer the Levittown School District ran their summer math and reading remediation program for students in grades four through six. The four-week program, held last month, provides students with an opportunity to enhance their skills during the summer in a relaxed environment and allows them to receive individual attention from their tutors.

Three Levittowners Lead Long Island Baseball to Gold Medal in Empire State Games
The Long Island Empire State Baseball has just returned from Rome, NY with the gold medal for the second straight year. This year's team compiled a 5-1 record and impressed both the college coaches and pro baseball scouts with their solid play all weekend as they played six games in three days.

Residents Excel in Cantiague Park Senior Men's Golf League
On July 5, the Cantiague Park Senior Men's Golf League held its eighth bimonthly tournament. Players experienced a few drops of rain when they first started out but it stopped quickly and the sun soon came out to provide a better playing atmosphere. The league had the smallest group so far this year, only 21 golfers, and had only one birdie that day.
