During the week of July 23, the Island Trees School District offered a lacrosse camp for boys and a volleyball camp for girls. Boys and girls in grades four through eight paid $35 for a week of instruction from varsity coaches and athletes.
The boys varsity coaches, Doug Rigo and Bob Rao, instructed the boys in all the fundamentals of the game of lacrosse. Supported by varsity lacrosse player Pete Condela, the coaches had nearly 40 campers enjoy the week of instruction.
Former Island Trees varsity athlete Koren Pena, assisted by former Island Trees varsity volleyball player Lauren Foster, conducted a volleyball camp for over 40 girls. The girls were taught how to bump and set and were instructed in all the other fundamentals of volleyball.
These two camps are just two of 16 sport camps offered throughout the summer to Island Trees student athletes.
