Tom Bobal of MacArthur High School was recently voted the sole recipient of the New York State Assistant Coach of the Year Award. This prestigious honor is awarded by the National High School Coaches Association. Bobal was selected over thousands of potential candidates.
Bobal, who was raised in Levittown, attended MacArthur High School himself, where he received All County honors for three consecutive years. In addition, he captained the school's first league and conference championship team. He was also an All County football player. After graduating from MacArthur, Bobal went on to wrestle for Nassau Community College and then went on to Hofstra University where he wrestled for two successful seasons. In 1993, Bobal was hired to teach art at MacArthur and later became the assistant varsity wrestling coach.
Bobal is the head freestyle clinician for the Levittown Wrestling Club, which consists of wrestlers from Salk, Wisdom, Division and MacArthur. In his 10 year coaching tenure, Bobal has coached seven NYS place winners, 10 Nassau County Champions and 60 All County wrestlers. This is a great honor for him and the Levittown athletic community.
