Levittown resident Lauren Konetsky (r.) and Junior Division winner Margaret Redden being congratulated by Assistant Race Director Joe Mendez.

Levittown resident Lauren Konetsky was part of an outstanding field of wheelchair athletes from all over the world who congregated on Long Island Sunday morning, June 24, for the 10th annual edition of the Salomon Smith Barney Nick Katsounis Memorial Wheelchair Championship 10 kilometer Race. Konetsky, 12 years old, competed in the Junior Women's Division and crossed the finish line in 46 minutes, 5 seconds. This won her second place among the junior women.

The race, which was co-administered by the Town of Oyster Bay and the Greater Long Island Running Club, started and finished at Ellsworth Allen Park in Farmingdale.

"We were thrilled to welcome Lauren to the race this year," said Race Director Geraldine Walsh. "She is a wonderful young lady who is active in all aspects of Long Island wheelchair sports programs, and it was nice to be able to give her the chance to compete against some of the best wheelchair athletes in the world."
