This week marked the final week of the 2001 Tomahawk Lacrosse season. It also marks the end of the first year of the "New Administration" of the Tomahawks Boy's Program. Although some growing pains were experienced, all in all the season was a huge success. The Awards Brunch will be held at Antuns Restaurant on Sunday, June 24 at 10 a.m. The teams may have finished up their games but that doesn't mean they'll be hanging up their sticks until next spring. Summer league starts in a few weeks. Anyone interested call the PAL office.

The 5th Grade Team traveled to Hicksville this past Sunday and in an exciting goal-for-goal game came out victorious in a 6-5 thriller.

Goalie Mike Andersen capped off his unbelievable season as he made 17 saves with 3 in the last 1:30 in the game to keep the score tied at 6-6. With less than a minute to play Bryon Hall took the ball, dodged past two Hicksville defenders and rifled a shot past the Hicksville goalie for the winning goal. Codie Lacey won the ensuing face-off as the Tomahawks held on to preserve the win.

The tough defense of Billy Gladitsch, Kyle Carley and Kyle Haran kept the Tomahawks in the game. Codie Lacey and Bobby Thomas were fantastic on face-offs giving the team control of the ball for most of the game. Scoring were; Bryon Hall with 3 goals and 2 assists, Dan McQuaid 2 goals, Terri McHue 1 goal and Codie Lacey and Kyle Carley with 1 assist each. Groundball men of the day were Jarrod Allen, Pat Pinner and Nick Buckley with 8 each.

The team finished their season with a 2-5-1 record. Although this may seem a dismal season, it should be pointed out that this team played in one of the toughest Divisions in the League and played tough with every team they faced.

The 5th and 6th Grade Team hosted Mineola at MacArthur HS and romped in a 9-5 win. Tim Terrillion played goalie for the first time and did an outstanding job as he made 15 tough saves. He was played out by the great defensive play from the whole team.

Tom Whitfield led all scorers with 3 assists and unbelievable 12 ground balls. John Augeri and Matt Dessano had 2 goals apiece as Dom Mattaresse and Anthony Williams scored a goal and an assist each. Dan Hart added a goal and Luke Federlin and Dylon Saccone each scored their fist goal of the season. Anthony Williams also grabbed an astonishing 11 groundballs.

The team finished their season with a record of 5-2-1. The coaches were very proud of the tremendous effort put out by the team this season.

The 6th Grade team played their final game on Friday June 8 as they hosted Lawrence at MacArthur HS. In an exciting game that went down to the final minutes the boys won a tough one 7-5. The Tomahawks led 5-3 going into the 4th quarter but Lawrence fought back and scored 2 goals to tie it up with 3 minutes left to play. Ronnie Irving picked up a loose ball and dodged several defenders and fired a shot over the shoulder of the Lawrence goalie for the winning goal. Scott Renda added an insurance goal a few seconds later to seal the win.

The defense of Joe Nilsen, Tom Celentani, Brian Rehder, Pat Reilly, Matt Burmeister and Sean McCauley kept the team in the game. Goalie Kyle Faherty capped off his successful season with 8 saves.

Ron Irving led all scorers with a goal and 3 assists as Tim Tobin scored 3 goals, Scott Renda 2 goals, Paul Tom 1 goal and Brian Fechtmann and Kyle Hughes each added an assist. Groundball men of the day were John Garafalo and Brett Tom with 5 each.

The team finished the season with an impressive 6-2 record.
