The varsity baseball team made history by winning the Nassau County Baseball championship for the first time in school history. The Bulldogs defeated the Wantagh Warriors by a score of 2-1 in a deciding game 3. The Bulldogs won game one 9-3 in convincing fashion. Mike Cavalcante picked up the win, with excellent relief from John Zarrelli. Greg Thomson went 2 for 4 with a home run that traveled about 415 feet.
Island Trees dropped game 2 despite a 3 for 3 performance by Greg Thomson, great relief once again from John Zarrelli, and a laser beam homerun from Tom Lombardi. Wantagh defeated the Bulldogs 3-2 to force game 3. In game 3, Greg Thomason escaped early trouble and shut out the Warriors for a complete game win. Matt Ostrowski's single drove in Tom Lombardi in the 5th for the game-winning run to seal the deal. A great game was turned in by everybody's hero, Danny Beale, who shot down a would be Wantagh run, with a strong throw to Joe Iglio to end the 3rd inning. When Greg Thomson struck out the final Wantagh batter to win the game, the Island Trees field exploded with jubilation.
The Bulldogs now advance to the Long Island Championship against Suffolk champion, the Kings Park Kingsmen. The game will be played at the State University at Stony Brook. This great ball club is now looking to advance to the state championship.
