The Levittown Kiwanis Club will be sponsoring the 5th Annual 5K Run on Father's Day, Sunday, June 17 with the proceeds going back into the community.

According to Kevin Regan, Levittown Kiwanis president, the race will begin behind Tri-County Flea Market, proceed north on Division Avenue until Strawberry, north on Strawberry to Periwinkle to Orchid, west on Orchid to Carnation, south on Carnation to Hyacinth, Hyacinth east to Azalea to Hilltop south to Old Farm Road east to Division Avenue south, and back to the Tri-County lot.

Though the event is a race, walkers are also welcome to come out and support this worthy cause. The proceeds of the 5K Run/Walk go to Kamp Kiwanis which sends underprivileged children in the community to summer camp and goes to other activities and scholarships in the community. Kiwanis is very active in the community and most recently held a Community Pride Day, a free event for the entire community.

The race will begin at 8:30 a.m. and it is expected that the bulk of the runners will be through with the first leg of the race, to Strawberry Lane in 10-15 minutes. Regan asks that residents be patient and understand that these roads must be closed to vehicular traffic while the majority of the runners pass. The roads will be opened again as soon as the surge passes. Only one lane of Division Avenue will be closed so southbound traffic will be allowed on that road. Regan notes that the other streets are too narrow for cars and the runners. The majority of the runners will be finished with the race in approximately 45 minutes. "Be patient and let it [the race] go through, it's a worthy thing," said Regan, noting that every year there is at least one resident who complains about not being able to get through while the race is going on.

Regan is expecting a great crowd this year because, unlike previous years, there are no other races going on in Nassau or Suffolk Counties on that morning. Runners are expected from all over, ranging from Huntington to Glen Cove, to New York City. Regan notes that the more entries, the better, allowing the Kiwanis Club to do more for the local community.
