It's the taxes! In just two years the $19.5 million increase in the school budget will have generated an almost 20 percent increase in school taxes. That is the reason for this year's rejection. That plus the peddling of a new bond in the millions, even before previous ones have been paid off. Keep in mind inflation remains at 3.5 percent or less. Have you no grasp of reality at all?
Certainly the reason for the rejection wasn't because of "the interference of New York State to undermine school districts" as stated by the well-heeled Sirois to Newsday in the Thursday, May 17 edition. In fact, his interview in Newsday guarantees he's awakened Joseph Goebells (Hitler's propaganda chief) again. His spirit resides under Sirois' desk.
I don't know if any school board members have problems paying their school taxes, I know I do. Whether the budget was rejected by 40 votes or 400 votes, it was rejected by the taxpayers of Levittown as a lousy job, and it should remain so.
For Sirois and the school board to resubmit the exact same budget on June 6 reeks of arrogance and disdain for the Levittown taxpayer. How dare you?
Signs calling for a second rejection will blossom on Center Lane again and hopefully elsewhere also.
