Tom Lombardi led a 12 hit attack as the varsity Bulldogs defeated Bellmore JFK at Eisenhower Park 6-1. The non-league contest was played before a large crowd last Saturday night. Lombardi finished the night 3-4 with three RBIs and two runs scored. Greg Thomson also had three hits for the Bulldogs. Island Trees continued to get clutch hitting from shortstop Michael Thompson. Thompson came to bat with runners at second and third with two outs in the top of the second and tripled over the head of the right fielder, giving Island Trees a 2-0 lead. Joe Iglio and Tom Lombardi both had run scoring singles in the third to increase the lead to 4-0. In the top of the seventh, Lombardi's opposite field bomb put the game out of reach. Sophomore John Zarrelli, pitched a complete game to earn his third win of the season. Zarrelli scattered five hits and struck out six. It appeared Bellmore was about to rally in the bottom of the fifth, but Zarrelli struck out the #3 hitter with two men on base. Zarrelli got terrific defensive support throughout the game. The defensive play of the game was made by Greg Thomson in the bottom of the third. With a runner at first and one out, Thomson caught a fly ball in center field and threw a bullet to Tom Lombardi at first to double up the runner.

The JV baseball team improved their record to 12 and 2 by defeating North Shore 10-0. Matt Rottkamp threw a no-hitter for the bulldogs, striking out eight batters. Rottkamp was also 3 for 4 at the plate. Matt Sinisi started off the eight run second inning with a three run homerun. Herb Reyes and Anthony Rinaldi both added two hits each for the Bulldogs.

It was another tough week for the Lady Bulldogs with three very tough games against three very good teams. First up was a visit from the Vikings of Seaford. Facing another dynamite pitcher in freshmen Diane Morrison, the Lady Bulldogs were shut out. They could only muster one hit and one walk. Chrissy DeMott struck out nine and gave up seven hits. Final score Seaford 5 Island Trees 0.

Next up for the Lady Dawgs was a tough team from Sewanhaka. Coming out flat really hurt, as the Indians scored first. Island Trees scored in the bottom of the sixth with consecutive hits by Erin Dodge and Chrissy DeMott, but it was a little too late. Chrissy deMott pitched a five hitter, with 10 strikeouts. Final score Sewanhaka 3 Island Trees 2.

After a very hard and long practice, the Lady Bulldogs were tired of losing and decided it was time to get back on the winning track. They did it in great fashion with a 4-1 victory over a very tough team from Glen Cove. After consecutive walks by Erin Dodge, Carol Lehmann and Jaclyn Habermehl, senior Kristen Mullervy singled in two runs to get the girls going on the right track. Next inning, sophomore Jen Grella reached first on a walk and was brought in by Rebecca Santoriello's single later that inning. Once again in the fifth, Santoriello singled and was brought in by a double by Lehmann. Some timely hitting was all the Lady Dawgs needed. Chrissy DeMott had a no hitter going into the bottom of the sixth, but settled for a two hitter with 11 strikeouts. Final score Island Trees 4 Glen Cove 1.

Next up is a fun day at Island Trees, home against rival Plainedge. It is also Senior Day where honors will be bestowed to seniors Jaclyn Habermehl, Sand Baglivo, Carol Lehmann and Kristen Mullervy. Then the seeding meeting and the first round of the playoffs begin. Stay tuned, record stands at eight wins and eight losses.

The girls JV softball team defeated Sewanhaka in a very long five innings. Michelle McGurk pitched the whole game and struck out four batters. Ashley Roman, Danielle Baglivo, Alyssa Fleming and Nikki Pena made great plays in the field and kept Sewanhaka at bay. Romina Chacon, Michelle McGurk, Mary Seremeta, Shannon McAdam, Danielle Baglivo, Laura Zummo, Ashley Roman, Nikki Pena, Alyssa Fleming, Laura Hyland and Kristin Gilson all added runs to the team's final total of 17. Big hits by Mary Seremeta (triple), Danielle Baglivo (three singles), Shannon McAdam (two singles) and various singles by Jess Kilfoil, Ashley Roman, Laura Zummo, Alyssa Fleming and Kristin Gilson helped lead to the win. The final score was Island Trees 17, Sewanhaka 1. Last game of the season is away at Plainedge.

The eighth grade baseball team almost came away with their first win of the season. Jeff Bischoff pitched outstanding throughout six innings, striking out eight hitters, while only walking two. The defense behind Bischoff also had a great game, making only two errors. The Bulldogs held the lead until the seventh inning when Bethpage decided to hit the ball to give them a four run lead. Once again, the team did not give up at the end, scoring two more runs in the bottom half of the inning, falling just shy of a comeback. At the plate, Anthony Santonocito, Joe Matzelle, Fred Koromi, Mike Topel and Bryan Marksteiner had good games. Stanonocito went 2 for 4 with two runs scored, Matzelle was 2 for 3 with one RBI and two runs scored and Koromi went 2 for 3 with one RBI and one run scored. Mike and Bryan had one hit each, but they proved to be important ones for the team. Topel's hit drove in two runs and Marksteiner had one RBI, scoring later on in the inning. The team is improving day by day and their record does not display the talent and potential they possess. The seventh and eighth grade track team had a third place finish at Grand Avenue. Great races were run by Marshall Trager, third in 10 meter; Lindsay Hallas, second in 400 meter and 200 meter; Lori Ehlich, third in 55 meter and Ashley Donnelly, first in 400 meter and shot put. Sal Cincinnato and Christian Blauvet did a great job on high jump. Blauvelt came in second and Cincinnato came in third. The Island Trees Lacrosse team lost a heartbreaker to Plainview/Old Bethpage 7-4. Mike Cama led the Bulldogs with two goals, while Mike Bristoll and Billy Lewis each had one. The defense was led by Joe Ciaravino and Brian Spiess in goal.
