In a week loaded with baseball excitement, the MacArthur Generals bested Division by defeating them twice.

On Tuesday, in game one, the Generals beat Division 2-1 in extra innings. MacArthur scored on a home run by catcher Henry Daverin, and an eighth inning hit by centerfielder John Morris. Division's P.J. Antoniato took the loss, pitching a beautiful game, allowing only three hits. The Dragon defense turned over three double plays in this game, just narrowly missing a fourth.

In game two, the Dragons took the lead early on a double by P.J. Antoniato and a two-run home run by Steve Juliano. The Dragons went into the sixth inning with a 3-1 lead only to have MacArthur tie it up at 3-3. At this point, senior Kevin Mulstay came in to give the Dragons two innings of excellent relief as he earned the win. In the bottom of the seventh, Jeff Tamarez led off with a double and was followed by a hard single by Mike Hublitz to create a first-third situation with no outs. Antoniato was walked intentionally. Eric Fierro responded with a deep sacrifice fly to knock in the winning run.

In game three, Division found itself down 2-0 in the first after they misplaced a ball in the outfield. In inning two, Mike Hublitz blasted a two run triple to tie the score. Ray Montoro later hit what appeared to be a three-run homer only to have the umpires call it back, converting it into a ground rule double. Keith Feldman then hit a sacrifice fly to give Division a 4-2 lead. Division's Dan Weingart took a 5-2 lead into the seventh before tiring. MacArthur's Jeff Meadows singled home a run with two outs in the seventh only to have the ball misplayed, allowing two more unearned runs in, giving MacArthur a 6-5 victory.

No matter which team you rooted for, it was a great week of baseball in which all three games were won in the bottom of the last inning. Prior to the season starting, this league was billed as one of the most competitive leagues ever assembled and it has lived up to its billing.

Next week Division has another good series on tap against a gritty Hewlett team. The Dragons are home on Monday and Wednesday and on the road on Tuesday. That Saturday the county playoffs open up, with a site and opponent to be determined at a later date.
