The Island Trees Varsity Lacrosse team began their season with much success. With wins against Division and Bellmore JFK, the Bulldogs did very well in their noon-league play. The first game of the season proved to be too much for the Bulldogs, as they lost 13-8 to Bethpage. With losses against Cold Spring Harbor and Manhasset, the Bulldogs finally stepped it up with an upset win over rival Locust Valley. Coming out on fire in the first half, the Bulldogs trampled the Falcons and jumped out to a first half 6-4 lead. The Falcons came out strong in the second half scoring four goals, which stunned the Bulldogs, who were suddenly down 9-7. The Dawgs pulled a win out in the last 5 minutes of the game, scoring 5 goals, to make the score 11-9. Leading the team on offense was Dan Donavan with 4 goals, Pete Condela with 2 goals and 2 assists, Steve D'Ambrosio with 2 goals and Steve Buonomo had 4 assists in the victory. The Locust Valley offense could not get the job done because of the defensive performance of Mike Buonomo, Rich Catherall, Peter Ruff and A.J. Latuputty. With a couple more tough games at the end of the season, such as Friends Academy and Plainedge, the Bulldogs hope to wrap up the rest of the season and make the playoffs.
The JV Baseball team improved their record to 10 and 2 by defeating Valley Stream North by a score of 13-1. The Bulldogs scored 7 runs in the top of the first on 7 hits and never looked back. Chauncey Garcia and Bryan Dirr each went 3 for 3 with 2 RBIs. Matt Rottkamp, Chris Hoebeler and Matt Sinisi all had 2 hits each and Dan Clarke and Mike Garcia added big hits for the Bulldogs. Anthony Rinaldi had another outstanding performance on the mound, striking out w13 for the win.
The roller coaster ride continues on the Lady Bulldogs' diamond. After a week of winning all three games by shutouts, the error bug has bitten again.
First up was cross-town rival Division. It was a close game that went into extra innings, but the Lady Dawgs came up short. Going into the fifth inning, behind 1-0, a clutch RBI single by Erin Dodge tied it up, only to lose in the bottom of the eighth. Chrissy DeMott held the Blue Dragons to just six hits, while striking out seven. Final score- Bulldogs 1, Blue Dragons 2.
Next up was a tough Valley Stream South team. An early lead provided by a long homerun by senior catcher Jaclyn Habermehl, over the right fielder's head was just what the doctor ordered but it didn't hold up. A few key errors in the field allowed Valley Stream to squeeze across two unearned runs. Once again Chrissy DeMott went the distance, allowing just five hits while striking out eight and only giving up two walks. DeMott also went 2 for 4 with a triple at the plate. The final score was Island Trees 1, Valley Stream South 3.
Finally a great game at MacArthur led to a tough loss to swallow. With some new faces on the infield for the Lady Dawgs, Jen Grella, Jamie Zetterberg, Erin Dodge and Erin Carroll did a great job. Sophomore Zetterberg got her third RBI of the season before getting hurt and leaving the field in an ambulance. She and Becky Santoriello had a nasty collision going after a foul ball outside of first and Zetterberg sustained a knee injury. Hopefully, with a little rest she will be back in the lineup soon. Right fielder Santoriello has recorded three more outfield assists, throwing to first base for the out. DeMott went all the way, scattering just five hits, one strikeout and one walk. Her strikeout count stands at 107 and an awesome ERA of .700.
Next up for the Lady Dawgs is Seaford, Sewanhaka, and Glen Cove.

The Girls JV Softball team had a tough break this week, losing three of their games. Michelle McGurk pitched all of the games and struck out an average of five batters per game. Major hits were contributed by Shannon McAdam and Mary Seremeta with one home run apiece. A triple by Lisa Provenzano and doubles by Michelle McGurk, Romina Chacon and Keri Spiess. Numerous singles were contributed by the above mentioned players and Jess Kilfoil, Danielle Baglivo, Ashley Roman, Najareet Barajas, Laura Hyland and Alyssa Fleming.
Congratulations to the 8th grade Girls' Softball team on their 15-0 win over Plainview. Lori Brennan pitched her first no-hitter and totaled 9 strikeouts in the five-inning game. The Lady Bulldogs kept their heads in the game, despite the sweltering 85-degree heat. Amanda Rossi, Kate Beale, Grace Vinberg, Megan Carlson, Jackie Augner and Hillary Sciacca played well, stealing base after base and capitalizing on their speed and agility. Nathaly Estrada, Donna Braun, Nicole Carrazana and Kelly Murphy stayed strong in the field. Perhaps the most exciting moment of the game took place when the Bulldogs needed just one run to end the game and Brittany Faherty stepped up to the plate as the first batter of the inning and hit a home run, ending the game in the 5th inning.
