On several occasions, when the Tribune has published letters containing inaccurate or even false information (most notably, letters from a James P. Ward), I have expressed my opinion that the editor should have checked on the accuracy of the facts therein, and either not publish letters containing false information or include an editorial note stating the true facts.
In this regard, I was pleased to read, in the April 20 edition of the Tribune, the editor's note associated with yet another of Mr. Ward's diatribes against the children of Levittown and their academic performance in school. The editor's verification that, as a result of student performance on New York state's fourth grade testing program, the Levittown School District was cited by the State Education Department as a "high performing district" effectively exposed and corrected Mr. Ward's false insinuations that the school district may have fabricated this accomplishment. I must compliment the editor on her efforts to protect the readers of the Tribune from receiving false information. This was good journalism and you are to be congratulated.
