Prior to Spring Recess, the Island Trees Lady Bulldogs had a 4-0 record, of which they were quite proud. Just before the recess began, the girls faced a very tough Glen Cove team, where they had their first taste of defeat. Sloppy defense and bad base-running cost them the game. Chrissy DeMott pitched well, striking out eight and only giving up five hits. She also went two for four and a walk at the plate. Jamie Zetterberg also got her first start in the field at second base and did a fine job handling seven of the eight balls hit to her. The final score was Glen Cove 5, Island Trees 4.

Spring recess brought a practice tournament out in Center Moriches. A long and hard day it was. Winning games against St. John the Baptist, Center Moriches, and Harborfields, their only loss came at the hands of West Islip, a game which the Bulldogs lost 1-0. Chrissy DeMott and Jaclyn Habermehl split the pitching duties for the day and did a great job.

The team's next league game was against the Plainedge Red Devils. Excited and raring to get back in the swing of things, Island Trees had a 3-2 lead going into the bottom of the seventh. The lead was provided by Carol Lehmann and Chrissy DeMott, each having RBI doubles. Once again the error bug bit the girls in the bottom of the seventh. Losing the lead and the game was a tough loss. The final score was Red Devils 4, Bulldogs 3.

The next stop for the team was Roslyn. Still trying to get over the previous day's loss to Plainedge, the Lady Dawgs were down. Another great pitching performance by Chrissy DeMott, striking out eight, only allowing two hits and one walk was just not enough. DeMott also went two for three at the plate with a triple and an RBI. Great defense by third baseman Carol Lehmann and rightfielder Becky Santoriello, but one too many mistakes led to two unearned runs. The girls could only muster five hits themselves so the final score was Roslyn 2, Island Trees 1.

The Lady Bulldogs' record stands at four wins, three losses, with lots of tough games ahead. Next up will be Clarke, North Shore, and Mineola.
