This past week the Division Avenue High School Baseball team won all three of its baseball games. On Monday, the Blue Dragons faced West Hempstead and its ace pitcher Dennis Conroy who threw a no-hitter in the opening round of last year's county baseball tournament. Division won the game 6-1 behind the four hit, 13 strikeout performance of PJ Antoniato.
Catcher Eric Fierro was Division's hitting star, with three hits and a first inning RBI triple. Antoniato added two hits while Junior Keith Feldman had two hits and two RBIs. Juniors Jeff Tamarez and Tom Messina added RBI hits that aided the Division cause.
On Wednesday the Dragons shut out an improved Bellmore Kennedy Cougar team 8-0. Junior Josh Flinn allowed one hit in six innings, with 12 strikeouts. Steve Juliano added an inning of shutout ball. Big hitters for Division were Juniors Jeff Tamarez and Chris Castellano who both had two hits, while PJ Antoniato, Steve Juliano, Keith Feldman, and Tom Messina all chipped in with RBI hits.
The Dragons played West Hempstead again on Saturday with Dan Weingart getting the win with five innings of three-hit ball, while striking out nine batters. Steve Juliano again added an inning of shutout ball. Division's offense scored 12 runs, pounding out 16 hits. PJ Antoniato led the Dragons with five hits, while Steve Juliano had three hits and three RBIs. Other big hitters for Division were Jeff Tamarez, Chris Castellano, and Tom Messina who all had two hits and an RBI.
Defensively Kevin Mulstay, Will Carbone, PJ Antoniato, and Eric Fierro combined for some beautiful team defense, killing a potential run, stuffing a West Hempstead 1st-3rd double steal.
Next week the Blue Dragons will be playing the Wantagh Warriors.
