Alice P. Miller passed away in San Francisco on Feb. 25, 2001, at the age of 89. She was born on March 15, 1911 in Lynn, MA. She was the author of many children's books and also taught on the college level, including at Pratt Institute and the Juilliard School of Music in NYC as well as substitute teaching at Levittown high schools.
She and her late husband, Warren H. Miller, were among the Levittown pioneers in the late '40s and she was one of the group that established the Levittown Public Library in 1950. They moved to Brooklyn in 1961.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Warren. She leaves behind her daughter and son-in-law, Jacqueline and Lyn Seltzer of NY, a grandson Matthew, and a daughter, Nancy Miller of San Francisco. Memorial contributions may be made to the Indiana University Writers Conference scholarship fund or to Hunter College in NY.
John C. Papale Sr. (Duke), of Levittown, died on March 8, 2001. He was a member of Operating Engineers Local #138. Husband of the late Josephine. Father of MaryAnn Bianco, Nancy Clark and John Jr. Father-in-law of Paul Kronauer. Brother of Frank Papale, Nancy (Chick) Pansini and the late Madeline Palumbo. Arrangements were made by the Arthur F. White Funeral Home. Funeral Mass at St. Martin of Tours RC Church. Interment Holy Rood Cemetery.
Michael J. Healy, of Levittown, formerly of Rockaway Beach, died on March 13, 2001. He was a member of the American Legion in Levittown and was a veteran of the USN. Son of Florence Scharf and the late John F. Healy. Son of Irving Scharf. Brother of Richard, Peter, Edward, Mary, Christopher, Robert Scharf, Mindy Zimmerman and Bonnie Mickle. Nephew of many. Uncle of 18. Arrangements were made by the Thomas F. Dalton Funeral Home, Levittown Chapel. Mass at St. Bernard RC Church. Cremation private. Donations can be made to the Pearl Harbor Memorial in his memory.
