The Island Trees Lady Dawgs Basketball team finished out one of their best seasons yet, with a tough loss to top-seeded Garden City in the county finals, by a score of 35-30. This team clearly showed how high school basketball should be played, by sticking together and fighting through any obstacle to accomplish their goals. The girls enjoyed playing and they all did their best to do their job and help the team. Overall, they definitely proved that they could do anything they set their minds to. The girls finished with an overall record of 20-2, an extremely hard task to master. The girls not only got the satisfaction and respect that they earned from playing, but they made many friendships along the way.

The entire team wrestled well and recorded a big home victory.
The cardiac kids are all at it again. The 8th grade Lady Bulldogs Basketball team took on the undefeated Golden Eagles of Bethpage in a cross-town battle. The Bethpage girls had a huge height advantage that made life in the dog pound unbearable in the first quarter. The opposition blocked 10 first quarter shots en route to a 14-2 advantage entering the second stanza. Refusing to be embarrassed on their home floor, the girls, directed by Colleen Fenton, who scored 4 points, went on a 10-3 run and trailed at the half by a 17-12 score. The Lady Dawgs continued to play aggressive basketball and outscored Bethpage 28-14 after the first quarter for their fourth victory 30-28. Trailing by 1 with under a minute to play, Kate Beale went to the foul line and calmly sank both ends of a one and one to give the girls their first lead of the day. Gina Brewer again led the team with 6 points as she dominated play with her speed and tough physical play. Grace Vinberg would not be denied under the boards even though she appeared to be dwarfed at times. Although less than a minute remained, the teams traded baskets as Megan Carlson and Gina Brewer hit huge shots. Hillary Sciacca drove the lane twice and scored 4 as she played her best game to date. Rounding out the ledger were Megan Carlson with 4, Jessica Ostrowski with 3 and Korin Jordan with 2. This was an amazing come from behind win for a team that refused to let up.
