The Island Trees Boys' Varsity basketball team finished its outstanding season with playoff wins over #5 Bethpage and #3 Manhasset to get into the Conference B County Semifinals vs. the Jericho Jayhawks. The Jayhawks had beaten our Bulldogs twice during the league season, but with the team playing its best basketball, they were very confident. Norberto Cabarcas was averaging 16 points and 12 rebounds in the playoffs, along with outstanding play from senior Jonathan Sguigna, who was averaging 17 points per game in the playoffs. However, the Jayhawks proved, once again, to be the thorn in the Bulldog's side knocking them out of a County Finals Game vs. Floral Park, another conference opponent.

This should not overshadow what these young men have accomplished over the past three years. This is the program's third consecutive year in the playoffs, and in the past three years, the boys have made the semifinals twice. For the second year in a row, junior Damon Moore received All Conference honors and junior Gerard VanLeuvan received All County honors. However, the teams success could not have been attained without contributions from its senior captain Dan Beale, senior Jonathan Sguigna, top rebounder Norberto Cabarcas, second year starting center Brian Mastro, the spark off the bench, Rich Catherall, 6'5" center Mike Fusci and Pat Iannone. Congratulations on a great season. This is the way to build a program!

The 8th grade Lady Bulldogs led wire to wire and gained their third victory of the season, defeating Packard by a score of 35-26. The game was close throughout and it wasn't until the final period when Gina Brewer took control, scoring 6 of her 12 points to ice the win. Colleen Fenton stepped up big again scoring 5 and controlling the tempo of the game. Breaking out in a huge way was Amanda Caccappolo, who scored 4 and ripped down 10 rebounds. Grace Vinberg who played on a sore ankle, was still able to dominate the boards while scoring 4. Adding two apiece were Kate Beale, Korin Jordan, Joanna Shek, Hillary Sciacca and with her first career points, Annalisa DiDomenico. Megan Carlson, Lori Brennan, Nicole Carrazana, Jessica Ostrowski and Jackie Augner played smothering defense.

The 7th grade Girls' basketball team played an incredible game against Plainview. The Lady Bulldogs came out with force and won by 18 points. Sarah Hess played her best game of the season with 8 points and tons of ferocious rebounds. Kate Tolan continued her season's success by adding 6 points to the game and playing aggressively under the boards. Lauren Mason and Samantha Modik added 4 points each, handled the ball extremely well and added numerous assists. Jen Reno, Lip Badolato, Jen Macaro and Maggie Pepitone added a basket each. Colleen Cunningham, Allison Amador and Dominique Witteck all did an awesome job rebounding. Every member of the team contributed to the win. The Bulldogs continue to progress with each game and continue to amaze their coach. Special thanks to Jeanette, Janese, Tina and, of course, the ever present Mike for their help with the team.

The Middle School Wrestling team had a tough loss at Seaford. The Bulldogs had some highlights with big pins coming from Pat Cassidy, Chris Kellam, Kevin Yank and Evan Mastro. Bernard Loiseau also chipped in with a tough 2-1 decision. The wrestling team's next match is at home vs. Packard.
