Stop World Hunger, Inc. has announced its calendar of tennis events for the year 2001. Since the summer of 1981, Stop World Hunger has been helping to provide recreational opportunities for the tennis community of Long Island. During this period of time, more than $60,000 has been raised to help Catholic Relief Services in its efforts to feed God's hungry children regardless of race, religion, and/or nationality. These are the victims of natural and man-made disasters, such as, famine, drought, earthquakes, poverty, and war.
The 2001 tennis season will open up with a tennis benefit on Saturday evening, March 17. Participants are guaranteed two hours of playing time, as well as light refreshments. Subsequent tennis benefits are scheduled for June, September and December.
Stop World Hunger's tournament season begins on April 1 with its Annual Spring Tennis Tournament. The tournament consists of round-robin play during the months of April and May. Based upon registration divisions are set up according to the ability levels and geographic locations of the players. Matches are scheduled at mutually convenient times and sites. Awards are presented to the winners in each division: intermediate, advanced intermediate, and advanced. The registration deadline for the Spring Tennis Tournament is Wednesday, March 21, 2001. Additional tournaments will be held in the summer and fall.
The cost for the Stop World Hunger Tennis Benefit is $15 per player. Reservations are required. The cost for the Stop World Hunger Tennis Tournament is $6 for men's and women's singles and $10 for men's and women's, and mixed doubles. Additional donations are welcomed but not mandatory.
