Chris Bennett, Chris Hagmaier and Steve Indelicato placed third, fourth and fifth, respectively, in the 2001 Nassau County Wrestling Tournament on Feb. 17 and 18.
Bennett, after a tough first-round loss, was able to come back strong and win his next four matches to finish the tournament with a bronze medal at 135 pounds. Fellow junior Indelicato at 160 pounds, a first-year wrestler, was able to make a name for himself by placing fifth in the county tournament. Indelicato also finished the season with 31 varsity wins and placed in every tournament that Division entered. Sophomore Hagmaier impressed quite a few of the coaches by making it to the semifinals only to lose a close 4-2 match to the eventual 119-pound runner-up. Hagmaier was able to wrestle back to a respectable fourth place finish.
With most of the team returning, the future looks bright for the Division wrestling program. The three seniors who contributed greatly to the team are Travis Chisholm, Dan Phrsai and Mark Russell. Their dedication and positive attitudes have been a major asset to the program. The rest of the Division Wrestlers wish them the best of luck in their future endeavors.
