Editor's Note: The following letter was sent to the Levittown Fire Department and is being printed here at their request.)

Late night on Wednesday Jan. 31, 2001, while my husband was getting ready to go to sleep, he jumped up from bed and ran out into our living room saying, "call the fire department, there's a fire next door!" Of course that was the first thing I did. My sons and my husband ran next door to make sure our neighbors were out of their house. As I ran out, the street was filled with smoke, making it almost impossible to breathe. My neighbors were out! Just as they were walking toward my house next door huge flames started coming out of the garage. More smoke filled the air. Within minutes the fire department and rescue teams showed up.

As people were running away from the fire and smoke the firemen were running toward it. While some curious onlookers were trying to see what was going on, the firemen and crew were making sure they were at a safe distance.

I was so impressed and very proud of all the firemen and crew. It actually brought tears to my eyes to watch them do the job they do so naturally and with such fury and strength. It was amazing to watch all these people work so perfect together, so quick and organized, working on putting the fire out while also making sure it didn't spread.

Being a witness to all of this, I just felt the need to say, "Thank You," and God bless every one of you for the courage, strength, and caring that all of you have inside.

I feel very honored, proud, and safe living here in Levittown.
