The Island Trees Lady Dawgs Basketball team is having one of their best seasons yet. The girls' record is now 16-1 overall and 7-0 in league, keeping them in first place in their conference. In the past week, the girls have taken on and defeated Wheatley and East Rockaway. Lisa Macchia has broken the school's scoring record previously held by Marie Fusci, by scoring her 1,200th point in their game against Wheatley. Cathy Sbarra and Tara Berman have helped keep the team focused. Lisa Smith and Elena O'Brien have led the team with the most steals, while Brittany Faherty and Erin Carroll crash the boards to get as many rebounds as possible. Meghan Voss, Jen D'Albenzio and Ashley Tonno made key shots during the games. Come and support the Lady Bulldogs this February Break, as they begin playoffs and make their run for a championship.
The Girls' JV Basketball team has played three straight games. They compiled a 2-1 record during the three games. The girls played aggressive defense. Leading the way on defense were Alyssa Fleming with six steals, Lisa Provenzano with four steals and Danielle Baglivo with four steals. Other players that contributed with smart defensive plays were Nikki Pena, Keri Spiess, Michelle Llorente, Najareet Barajas, Teresa Grassi and Mary Seremeta. On the offensive end the team was led by Laura Hyland with eight points, Lisa LoFaso with 19 points, Kate Schamberger with 16 points, Becca Santoriello with 25 points and Jessica Galella with eight points. The girls worked hard during all three games. Keep up the good work!
The Boys' JV Basketball team won its second game in a row, defeating New Hyde Park by a score of 67-42. Dondi Peterson led the Bulldogs with 14 points and Chris Bitetto with 12 points. Rob Giovi and Anthony DiDomenico added eight points apiece and Fernando Suarez cleaned up on the boards, pulling down 15 rebounds. The whole team is to be commended for a great job and 13 out of 15 Bulldogs added to the scoring.
