This season the Division Avenue Girls' Varsity Basketball team is led by 5'8" senior center Christina Squillante. On most teams Squillante would be much too small to play the #5 spot in the lineup, however she has proved she can play with the biggest girls in Nassau County. Squillante is averaging 14 points, 10 rebounds, four assists, and two blocked shots per game. She is the third leading rebounder in Lady Dragon history behind Michelle Sorise (1994) and Colleen Sullivan (2000).
In December Squillante was named to the All-Tournament team at the Port Washington Lady Viking Invitational. Later that month she was selected Most Valuable Player at the Long Beach Holiday Classic, where she scored 20 points and pulled down 15 rebounds against host Long Beach in leading the Dragons to the tournament championship. Squillante has led the Dragons to their best league start since 1994. She has helped the girls to a 4-0 start and a share of first place with highly ranked Garden City. Squillante was an All-League selection in basketball last season and is hoping to be on the All-Nassau County team this season.
Aside from being a gifted basketball player, Squillante is also a talented student. She has maintained a 92 percent grade point average and attained a score of 1000 on the SAT Exam. Squillante is the senior editor of the Division Avenue High School Yearbook and a member of the student council. She plans to study physical education in college and is currently interested in SUNY Cortland and Oneonta, and East Stroudsburg College in Pennsylvania.
