The Island Trees wrestling team won one match and lost another last week to bring their record to 10-3. On Wednesday, the Bulldogs defeated Locust Valley 36-25 and on Friday, they lost a 38-19 decision to Valley Stream North. The Bulldogs lost four matches in which they were winning, in the last 30 seconds.

The Bulldogs finished the league season with a record of 3-2 and a third place finish. The team has been getting ready or the dual-meet championships which began on Jan. 30. The team will then compete on Feb. 10 in the qualifying tournament at East Meadow High School. The Bulldogs have many individuals looking to earn all-league status. Anthony Casale, currently ranked first (96 lbs.), Matt Anderson (103 lbs.), James Scrimo (119 lbs.), Will Kilcommons (125 lbs.), Matt Lorenzini (135 lbs.), James Lyons, currently ranked fifth (140 lbs.), Julio Barea (145-152 lbs.), Matt Fiorello (160 lbs.), Rob Bischoff (160 lbs.), Chris Lorenzini (171 lbs.) and Mike Williams (215 lbs.), will be looking to make an appearance at this year's Nassau County Tournament.

In a year which has had its ups and downs, the Island Trees Boys Varsity Basketball team has a 7-4 overall record with a 4-1 league record. Coming off their best half of basketball against a Levittown rival, Division, the boys team is preparing to play the team which they competed against for the Conference B County Championship two years ago, the Seaford Vikings. Since that year, this has become a very heated rivalry, along with the fact that this year's Seaford team is an unbeaten 10-0.

The Bulldogs have played their best basketball when they play with a total team effort. This effort is led by Gerard VanLeuvan's 19 points per game, Damon Moore's five assists and three steals per game, Norberto Cabarcas and Brian Mastro each contributing nine rebounds and all contributions from Dan Beale, Jon Sguigna, Rich Catherall, Mike Fusci and Pat Iannone. If the team could continue to build on its play in the second half of the Division game, the season could really be one to remember.
