I am writing in response to coverage of Republican legislators calling upon County Executive Gulotta to not seek re-election.

These Republican legislators should be ashamed of themselves. Here they are blaming the county executive for a problem they helped to create. Scapegoating is a political technique predating ancient Athens, but do these legislators really believe the public's memory is that short. Their strategy demeans the intelligence of voters and is bound to backfire. They forget, or they at least expect your readers to forget, that they also voted the county's budgets and were responsible for a $60 million shortfall, which contributed to the downgrade of the county's bond rating and state oversight.

The fact of the matter is that this same strategy failed two years ago, leading to the Democrat control of the County Legislature. They are again splitting Nassau's Republican party. These Republicans would be far better served by finding ways to reduce spending, encourage economic growth, and by pointing out to the voters that it was the Democrats who sought to raise taxes by 15.4, and would have succeeded had it not been for the county executive. It's about time that Republicans attack Democrats and not Republicans. There is plenty of blame to go around, our legislators should be able to stand on their own two feet.
