Island Trees Approves All Day Kindergarten Plan
Provided the Island Trees budget passes for the 2001-02 school year, the district will open in September with a full day kindergarten program.

NYS Regent Visits Innovative Island Trees/BOCES Preschool
Halfway through the first year of collaboration between the Island Trees/SCOPE Preschool Program and the BOCES Special Education Preschool, featuring unique integration between special education and mainstream preschoolers, the program has been declared a success and a model for others. In an effort to try to encourage the state to help fund other programs of this sort, BOCES invited New York State Regent James Dawson, from Plattsburgh, to tour the facilities and see how beneficial the integration has been for both Island Trees and BOCES.

Island Trees Sports
The Island Trees wrestling team won one match and lost another last week to bring their record to 10-3. On Wednesday, the Bulldogs defeated Locust Valley 36-25 and on Friday, they lost a 38-19 decision to Valley Stream North. The Bulldogs lost four matches in which they were winning, in the last 30 seconds.

Levittown Sports Spotlight
This season the Division Avenue Girls' Varsity Basketball team is led by 5'8" senior center Christina Squillante. On most teams Squillante would be much too small to play the #5 spot in the lineup, however she has proved she can play with the biggest girls in Nassau County. Squillante is averaging 14 points, 10 rebounds, four assists, and two blocked shots per game. She is the third leading rebounder in Lady Dragon history behind Michelle Sorise (1994) and Colleen Sullivan (2000).
