Town Plows Through Snow Removal Problems
After receiving much criticism for their poor snow removal following the Dec. 30 storm, the Town of Hempstead engaged Levittown resident Frank Scarangella, a former deputy commissioner for the highway department, to make recommendations to improve the speed and quality of the town's snow clearing efforts. As the second significant snowfall of the winter hit this past weekend, these recommendations were implemented and the number of complaints from residents were significantly reduced.

Eighth Grade State Testing a Concern in Levittown Schools
Noting that eighth grade students will begin state testing on May 8 and won't finish until June 20, Assistant Superintendent of Instruction Robert Davis reported to the Levittown Board of Education, at the January meeting, that the administration and personnel had concerns about how these state-mandated tests would affect the implementation of the district's own final examinations.

Levittown Sports Spotlight
Kate Maniscalchi, a three sport varsity athlete, is MacArthur's most recent choice for the athletic spotlight. The number of three-sport varsity athletes is slowly declining each year as athletes, even on the high school level, are becoming more specialized in their sports. This is not the case with Maniscalchi, as she was a starter on the girl's varsity soccer team since the ninth grade, she is a starter on the basketball team for the third year in a row and will start on the badminton team for the fourth year in a row. Not only does Maniscalchi start on all three teams, she is an impact player on all three.

Wisdom Lane Middle School Sports
The seventh-grade boys basketball team enjoyed another fine season. Team sportsmanship and an excellent work ethic was apparent throughout. The fine guard play of Jimmy Davis, Pat Carroll, Michael Maini and Richard Lepis kept their opponents off balance all season. With the continued improvement of this "Fearsome Foursome" the Cats are looking forward to continued success next season.
