I am an employee of the Levittown Public Library, but I am also a resident of 25 years and a taxpayer like you, and my letter is written as a resident not as an employee.
Our library will be currently going through our annual budget review, and high on the list in my opinion should be renovation and modernization of our library. It is truly sad to say that our library is arguably the most unattractive, and physically rundown of all the libraries in Nassau.
Wherever you go to our north, south, east, and west most currently Hicksville, Bethpage, East Meadow, and Massapequa; these libraries have all renovated their institutions and they are quite lovely. Our library can be renovated at minimum pain to taxpayers using available surpluses and possibly government and community support.
It is sad to note that our library is prominently pictured in the Levittown Chamber of Commerce Directory and in such dire need of modernization. It is an embarrassment for us as taxpayers to have a facility that looks like this.
I have presented to the Levittown Library Board my proposals for modernization. I ask all residents of our library district and that includes parts of Wantagh and Seaford to join me at the upcoming board meetings to express your support if you are so inclined.
If you would like a copy of my proposal please call me at home at 735-6367, and I will be happy to send you a copy.
Please come to the next board meeting on Feb. 7, at 8 p.m. in the community room to show your support. I ask for the help of our Councilman Gary Hudes, our Legislator Dennis Dunne, the Levittown Chamber of Commerce President, Dr. Nogan who is also on our board, the Levittown Property Owners Association, and my good friends at the Levittown Community Council and the Levittown Kiwanis to help our library go from lidreary to library.
