Michael DeLorenzo, a quiet but very effective force on MacArthur's wrestling team, has the honor of being chosen for the MacArthur HS Athletic Spotlight. DeLorenzo is a senior this year and has been a very integral part of one of the most successful wrestling programs in Nassau County. This is DeLorenzo's fourth year with Coach Howie Greenblatt and so far it has been his best to date.

Coach Greenblatt says that DeLorenzo is willing to accept any challenge that is asked of him and that includes wrestling up a weight class or two or dropping down a weight class. Whatever it takes to help the team DeLorenzo is willing to make the sacrifice. Two weeks ago in MacArthur's Holiday Wrestling Tournament, DeLorenzo placed second among the 12 teams that participated in the tournament and improved on that the next week by placing first in the Bethpage tournament. Coach Greenblatt relies on DeLorenzo during practices because of his experience and because of his lead by example attitude. His presence is felt at practice because he takes this sport very seriously and he knows that there is no time for any nonsense.

This year Coach Greenblatt feels that his wrestlers have an excellent chance for a county championship. Never has the coach said this before but with wrestlers like DeLorenzo he feels very confident that he has a great chance to win it all. If this team does finish on top, Mike DeLorenzo will be one of the reasons why. Winning an individual County Championship and a team championship would be a fitting way to end what is starting out to be a very successful season so far.

DeLorenzo's skills are not limited to wrestling. In the fall season, DeLorenzo has been a member of the soccer program for all four years of his high school career. This past season he was elected captain of the soccer team and was named to the All Conference Team.

DeLorenzo is one of those students who seem to make good things happen both on and off the field. In his school related activities, DeLorenzo was elected vice president of his class; he is a member of the key club and was chosen by faculty members to be a member of the elite "Peer Leader" group. This goes along with being a member of the Symphonic Band, the yearbook committee, the school blood drive, and the dance committee. Yes, DeLorenzo is one who seems to have time for everything and that includes schoolwork. Academically, DeLorenzo maintains a very solid 88.6 average, he scored a 1090 on his SATs.

MacArthur wishes DeLorenzo well as he winds up a very successful high school career.
