East Broadway teachers Donna DeLorenzo (left) and Kim Moynihan are congratulated by School Board President Michael Moriarity.

A trio of Levittown School District family members were cited at December's school board meeting for going above and beyond the call of duty in separate incidents that occurred within the community recently.

The board awarded special certificates to East Broadway teachers Donna DeLorenzo and Kim Moynihan, who both stopped at the scene of an accident involving a school bus while they were on their way home and offered their assistance. "What they did is so special because it was after school hours and they were on their way home," said East Broadway Principal Diane Koprowski.

"They stayed with the children on the bus to comfort them and went to the hospital," she added. Fortunately, none of the children suffered any serious injuries.

Also at the meeting, Superintendent Dr. Herman Sirois and School Board President Michael Moriarity hailed school board trustee James Moran for his part in trying to save an elderly neighbor and her family from a house fire. The 84-year-old Levittown woman did not survive, but her two children did.
