The Boys Varsity Soccer team started their season off with a 5-2 victory over a highly regarded East Meadow team and presently have a 4-2-1 record.

The Generals are led by senior Mike Delorenzo (2 goals), junior Marek Zajakowski (3 goals) and sophomore Mike Ackerman (4 goals).

The Generals are very young and talented and they look to have a very bright future. To date, they have scored 23 goals in seven games and have allowed only nine goals to be scored against them.

Defensively the Generals are led by their sweeper, Ray Paul, goaltender Erik Milk (2 shutouts), Eddie First (2 goals), Tim Zeegers (2 goals), Adam Small, Brendon Cleary, and Danny Valentino.

MacArthur's strong mid field is led by Eril Ackerman (1 goal), Mike Calendra (2 goals), Steve Savin and Sean Depuy (1 goal). Jose Cruz (3 goals, Chris Waring (2 goals), Chris Gey (1 goal) and Andrew Lentini (2 assists). This young General's soccer team is currently in second place and contending for a playoff spot.

The MacArthur football team started the 2000 season with a 7-6 win at Mepham. A Justin Anderson 4-yard touchdown run got the Generals on the board and Brad Morris added the point after with 9:30 left in the game as the Generals defeated 3rd-seeded Mepham in the season opener.

The Generals dropped their next two games as they lost to Wantagh, 21-0 and Garden City, 26-14. In the Garden City game, Jon Birsner scored on a 50-yard punt return and a 60-yard run to pull MacArthur to within 20-14, but Garden City added a late touchdown to seal the win.

The Generals rebounded the following week as they shut out Bellmore JFK, 28-0. Henry Daverin threw two touchdown passes to Jon Birsner and Justin Anderson and Kevin Lyons each added a touchdown for the Generals.

In week five, MacArthur lost a thriller to Hewlett by a score of 21-20. The Generals were trailing 21-0 at the half, but they scored three touchdowns to pull within 21-0 with :34 to go in the game. The two-point conversion was stopped and Hewlett ran out the clock after recovering the on-side kick. The teams' record stands at 2-3, but the playoffs are still within their reach.

MacArthur Girls' Varsity Soccer team has had an impressive season to date, playing to a 5-3-2 record in a very tough and competitive Conference IV. The girls are hoping to qualify for the Nassau County Playoffs and compete for a county championship. A very impressive win against higher seeded Port Washington last Monday certainly helped their cause both in the standings and with their confidence. The playoff picture will consist of competition among the top 14 schools in the county and a win like the girls had last Monday is always nice to ride into the playoffs with.

The Lady Generals will be depending on their experience to go deep into the playoffs. With a team consisting of nine seniors, this will have to be the year for the girls to make their move. Coach Howie Greenblatt will depending on the likes of Tori Gargiso, BobbiAnne Gennaro, Kristin Gentil, Corina Kellner, Kate Maniscalchi, Courtney Masone, Lauren Pastore, Victoria Reuter, Tara Schmutzler, and Kathleen Ward to lead the way. All are seniors so Greenblatt is hoping that their last run will be long and successful. Juniors, Caitlin Nally and Danielle Jackson will also be counted on heavily for the playoff run. Nally is the goalkeeper and to date has only let up 11 goals, quite an impressive statistic for any team. If the Lady Generals can muster up some offense, they should be in pretty good shape seeing how Nally has been so stingy in letting up goals.

Hopefully their experience will come into play and the girls will be able to send some other teams home a little earlier than expected. Good luck to the Lady Generals in their quest for the playoffs and hopefully a county championship.

The Girls Varsity Volleyball team has had a very successful season so far, compiling a 9-3 record to date. The Generals are led by senior co-captains Jessica Selock (middle hitter) and Caroline Tornbene (setter).

The team is a very experienced one, with five out of the six starters being seniors. They include: Marisa Balsamo (middle hitter), Jackie Burd (outside hitter), and Kristi Calvacca (opposite hitter). The other starter is junior Natalie Villemure (outside hitter).

The team receives great support from the other players, including: senior Lauren Muller, Juniors Danielle Rodier, Mary Ann Gutkind, Kelly Johnston, Jackie Maher, and sophomore Jackie Muller.

MacArthur is looking forward to a strong finish to the season, while preparing to make a successful run in the playoffs.
