  • NEWS: Island Trees Inducts New Members Into Athletic Hall of Fame

    On Saturday, the Island Trees School District, as part of its Homecoming Weekend activities, held its second Athletic Hall of Fame Dinner and Induction Ceremony. Forty-two former students and seven coaches were added to the Hall of Fame, which was first established in 1997 when 122 former athletes were inducted. FULL STORY

  • NEWS: Hearings Held on Old Vanderbilt Motor Parkway Lots

    On Wednesday Oct. 11, the Town of Hempstead Board of Zoning Appeals held a hearing regarding a proposal by Josato Inc., to build 20 homes on two plots of land formerly known as Motor Parkway. In addition to the homes, 16 of which would need variances from the Town, Josato also applied to the Nassau County Planning Commission for a variance to build two roads, known as Marigold and Topaz, which would not fall under the county's requirements with regard to street width. The variances they would need from the town are because Levittown has a special zoning law, known as the Levittown Planned Residence District (LPRD). Under this ordinance, the lots proposed by Josato are not deep enough for houses. FULL STORY

    The Lacrosse Museum and National Hall of Fame is pleased to announce the selection of the 43rd class to the Hall of Fame, a group of 10 individuals who have contributed to the sport as players, coaches, officials and administrators. FULL STORY

  • SPORTS: Red Devils Football

    On Sunday, Oct. 15, Pee Wee Gray put their undefeated record on the line in a home game in "Our House," as the kids say, against Wantagh. For the first time in four weeks Gray actually lost the coin flip and started on defense. Gray's starting defense consisted of left end Bryan Verbitsky, right end Anthony Ciaramitaro, linemen Chris Nickel, Bryan Peterson, Zack Trimboli, Damien Calderon, linebackers George Athan, Joey Leonard, Mike Rakitzis and safetys Daniel Bartlett and Timmy Michels. Michael James, Davey Grecsek and Dakota Bransfield were rotated freely in and out of various defensive positions and did an awesome job. FULL STORY
