Nick Sguigna, president of the Island Trees Little League/ Island Trees Baseball League, is pleased to announce that this year's 9-year-old All Star team was able to accomplish what no other Island Trees baseball team was ever able to achieve- winning the Metro State Championship.

Sguigna would like to thank the manager Tom O'Reilly and his two coaches Mike Pellegrino and Ed Schulman for all the hours they put in to achieve this goal.

"This team showed me more than just baseball skills. They showed me that they were focused and mentally prepared to win it all by coming back from being down by two runs in the first game and semifinals," said Sguigna. The team made an amazing comeback in the last inning of the first game by scoring three runs in a two-out rally. After this comeback they stayed focused and went on the win the Metro State Championship.

"Congratulations to all the players. I'm proud of each and every one of you," concluded Sguigna.
