A Chance to Help a Child
A benefit will be held on Aug. 27, at VFW Post 9592, to help raise money to send 6-year-old Kevin Healy Jr., who has cerebral palsy, to Poland for specialized therapy. Through an afternoon of entertainment, raffles, games, and food, those organizing the event are hoping to help Kevin's family raise enough money to get this treatment which may change his life.

Gardiner's Ave. Bus Driveway Construction Halted
After several weeks of angry words and hard feelings, it was announced at last week's board of education meeting that the Levittown School District would not be going forth with a project to construct a bus driveway around the Gardiner's Avenue Elementary School, which would have, in some instances, come within inches of neighboring properties.

Eight-Year-Old State Champs
The Levittown South-Wantagh Baseball All Star Team recently won the Cal Ripken Eight-Year-Old State Championship held at McLaren Park in Levittown. The team won five consecutive games en route to the championship. The final two games were against a very tough and talented Plainedge team. The championship game, on July 25, was won convincingly by Levittown 9-3.

St. Bernard's Spring League a Huge Success
Every spring, Frank Higgins has coordinated the Spring League for boys going into eighth, ninth and 10th grades. The purpose is to give all players a chance to improve their game and have fun in a competitive environment. There were enough players signed up to establish a five-team league. League play ended in late June and the season concluded with two All-Star games on July 3.
