The College of Saint Rose honored a pair of senior basketball players as its outstanding scholar-athletes during the school's annual All-Sports Ceremony. The scholar-athlete awards are presented annually to the top male and female student-athletes who have epitomized the ideals of leadership, academic achievement and athletic excellence.
Mike Perno, of Levittown, a graduate of Holy Trinity High School, was recognized as the outstanding male scholar-athlete. Perno, an elementary education major whose name has consistently appeared on the dean's list, was a two-year starter for the Golden Knights after transferring from Monmouth University. Perno was part of teams that went 47-15 over the last two years and made one trip to the Elite Eight.
A starter in all of the team's 62 games during his two-year tenure, Perno averaged 13.9 points per-game last season. Perno canned a team high 87 three-pointers and led the conference by converting 83.5 percent of his free throws. In addition, Perno was a member of the college's golf team this spring.
