Veronica I. Chesbuske, of Levittown, died on June 2, 2000. Wife of Robert. Mother of Richard, Kathleen, Patricia, Paul and Theresa. Grandmother of eight. Arrangements were made by the Vernon C. Joe DiMaggio, 80, a former physical education teacher and baseball coach in the Levittown School District, died on June 13, 2000. He stared his coaching career in 1957 at Division High School and moved to the newly built MacArthur High School in 1961. He was the athletic director at Salk Junior High School.
Mr. DiMaggio coached lefthanded pitcher Richie Schwartz who pitched at St. John's University before joining the Cleveland Indians. He also guided second baseman Cliff Demm who went on to the University of Miami, pitcher Al Schwartz, fourth-round draft pick of the Washington Senators and outfielder Tom Myette who played with the Chicago Cubs.
Mr. DiMaggio recorded 286 wins over 21 years and captured a county championship in 1969. He retired in 1977. One of his favorite photos was one taken with Yankee Joe DiMaggio (no relation).
He is survived by his wife, Jean, and his children, Joe Jr. and Billy. Arrangements were made by the Commack Abbey.
