Last week the Division Blue Dragons swept a stubborn Floral Park team to finish the season at 16-2. This record ties the Dragons with MacArthur to make them co-league champions.

By winning the league championship this season, the Dragons have won the league title every single season since 1979 with the exception of 1994. That gives them 21 titles in the last 22 years.

In game one of the Floral Park Series, the Blue Dragons defeated the Knights by a score of 7-1. P.J. Antoniato hurled a beautiful two hitter, allowing Floral Park only an unearned run.

The Blue Dragons scored four runs in the first inning to break the game open. Big hitters for the Dragons were Steve Juliano, Eric Fierro, Kevin Schneider, and Jeff Tamaraz. Schneider belted a two-run homer for Division, while Fierro went three for three with two runs scored and two RBI's. Division turned its 11th double play of the season.

In game two, the Dragons scored five runs in the first inning. Big hitters were Juliano, Fierro, John Ferretti, Tamaraz, and freshman Ray Montoro. Tamaraz led the dragons with two hits, two runs scored, and two RBI's. Fierro had three hits with a run and RBI, while Juliano had four hits, a run, and an RBI.

Phil Stumphf was the winning pitcher, allowing no earned runs, while scattering four hits and striking out nine batters. Division turned its 12th double play of the year, giving them the most double plays they've had since 1992. That year they had turned 15 with shortstop Joe DiMatteo, a three year starter at C.W. Post, and second baseman Marcus Maza, a four year starter at New York Tech.

In game three, the Dragons had a tough time with Floral Park before finally beating them 7-4. Sophomore Josh Flynn held Floral Park down and Division got the win with some excellent relief pitching from Juliano who struck out the sides in the seventh inning.

Big hitters for Division were Tamaraz with three hits, and Montoro with two. Once again it was Juliano who delivered the big hit to go along with his excellent pitching when he stroked a two-run triple in the top of the seventh to put Division ahead to stay.

On the alumni scene three Division players, Ian Beller, Rob Boswirth, and Steve Robins, have just finished up their college careers with an exciting three game series with the University of Miami. The former Dragons stars gave the number 12 ranked team in the country all they could handle when they lost an extra inning game to the nationally famous Hurricanes.

A close watch is also being kept on ex-Division star Shawn Fagan, who recently was number five in the nation in RBI's as he helped to lead his Penn State Nittany Lions into the championship game of the Big Ten League. Fagan is expected to be drafted into the pro-draft which will be coming up next month.
