What seemed almost certain to be a rainout, turned into the biggest offensive game of the season so far. The 8th grade baseball team defeated Wheatley 18-1 despite overcast skies, cold and damp weather and light rain. Anthony Thompson pitched nearly 6 innings of perfect baseball. One Wheatley hitter got the best of him and that happened to be a solo homerun in the second inning. Thompson bore down after that one mistake and got the job done. Through six innings, Anthony faced 19 batters, striking out 15, allowing 1 hit, 1 earned run and no walks. As a team, the Bulldogs had a tremendous offensive outburst. They scored 18 runs on 20 hits, 9 walks and 8 stolen bases. Of the 18 runs scored, 14 runs were batted in by 10 different players. The 8th grade softball team played a game against Wisdom Lane and in the scorching heat, the Lady Bulldogs were able to keep their cool and hold their own against a very challenging team. Excellent plays in the field were made by Kristin Gilson with a terrific play third to first, Kate Schamberger with a double play, and Laura Hyland grabbing a fly deep in foul territory. Mary Seremeta, Christina LoFaso and Jenna Steele did outstanding jobs backing up and holding the runners on base. Romina Chacon continues to excel behind the plate with her intimidating stare and dominating presence. The Lady Bulldogs also did a nice job at bat against a fast pitcher. Lisa Provenzano hit a triple late in the fourth inning, driving in a run. Christina LoFaso hit a single and stole two bases, which allowed her to score. Jenna Steele continues her hitting streak going 2 for 2. Kate Schamberger, Kristin Gilson and Shannon McAdam each added a single in the Bulldogs' effort against fine pitching by Wisdom. Island Trees played a nice game and looks forward to their next appearance on the field.
