Division opened up its series against New Hyde Park with Division Alumnus Doug Robins, Jr. at the helm with a 12-1 victory.
Phil Stumphf, Dan Cronin and Colin Schmaeling combined for the victory. Stumphf, a junior, was the winning pitcher, going five innings and allowing no runs, only two hits and two walks while striking out 10 batters in the five innings that he pitched. Cronin made his first game appearance on the hill since an early season arm injury and will bring added stability to the Division staff for the remainder of the season.
Division had several big hitters: Junior PJ Antoniato had three hits, two runs scored, and two RBIs; Eric Fierro and John Ferretti, both juniors, each had two hits with three RBIs to pace the Dragons; junior Mike Hublitz hit a homer over the deep left centerfield fence to bring home two more Dragons.
In game two, Division broke things open with six runs in the first inning on big hits by Cronin, Steve Juliano, Fierro, Ray Montoro, and Hublitz. Big hitters for Division were Juliano, who was 4 for 4 with two runs scored and three RBIs; Fierro with three hits, two runs scored and two RBIs. Sophomore Jeff Tamaraz, freshman Ray Montoro and junior Mike Hublitz all chipped in with two RBIs.
Antoniato (7-0) got the win going five innings, allowing no runs, two hits with 7Ks.
In the third game of the series, the Division Blue Dragons defeated New Hyde Park 8-2 but the game was much closer than the score would indicate. Going into the sixth inning, the score was 3-2 in Division's favor before the Dragons broke loose for one run in the sixth and four more in the top of the seventh. The story for the Dragons was good pitching as sophomore Josh Flinn and Juliano combined for a no-hitter. Flinn pitched five innings and struck out 11 batters, while Juliano pitched two innings and struck out five batters. The Dragons committed four errors, which is uncharacteristic of them.
Big hitters for the Dragons were Fierro, and Kevin Schneider who both had two hits, two RBIs and a run scored. Tamaraz added two RBIs and Juliano had an RBI with two runs scored.
