Levittown School District Adopts 2000-01 Budget
On Monday, the Levittown Board of Education listened to the recommendations of two separate committees on the budget and discussed various components of budget prior to adopting a $108,167,824 budget to be put up for district residents to vote upon on May 16. This budget is an increase of $8,714,510 from the budget that was approved by taxpayers last July. To property owners this proposed budget represents an increase of $326 per year with the blended tax rate, thus bringing the total taxes to $3,774 per year.

Senator Schumer Is Principal for a Day in Island Trees
On Monday, April 17, New York Democrat, United States Senator Charles Schumer, visited Island Trees High School as part of the "Principal for a Day" program that he has been involved with since his election. Senator Schumer has piloted the Marshall Plan, a set of his goals for improving education- getting to see middle and high schools first-hand is a major aspect of his plans for reform. The schools that the senator visited while on Long Island this week were Bethpage, Island Trees and Freeport and, according to the senator's aides, he has been visiting schools in every part of the state in much the same way.

MacArthur Generals Sweep Hewlett Series
The MacArthur General's varsity baseball season opened against Hewlett. The Generals faced excellent pitching but managed to sweep the three game series.

Blue Dragon LAXers Win
The Division Avenue Boys Lacrosse team won an important league game against Great Neck North on April 14, by the score of 8-4. This was truly a team effort as the Blue Dragons improved their league record to 3-1. Jason Ramo led the scoring with four goals and one assist. Also scoring in the game for Division were John Bruckbauer and Tim Andrews.
