Landscaping Plans For Turnpike Get the Green Light
This has been a busy two weeks for the Hempstead Turnpike Revitalization Committee. After meeting the concerns of the emergency personnel, two members of the committee met with Department of Transportation officials the last week in January. A local landscape designer from Island Trees volunteered his expertise to assist the landscape selection on this multi-million dollar project and his expertise was welcomed by the committee.

Levittown Vocational Holds 12th Annual Skills Competition
The Levittown Vocational Center held its 12th annual skills competition last Thursday night at Levittown Memorial. The skills competition provided students at the school an opportunity to showcase the talents they have developed through the vocational center's program.

Island Trees Sports
The Island Trees Boys Varsity Basketball team knew going into the North Shore game on Tuesday, Feb. 1, that they needed to win to have a shot at the playoffs. After a tough win over Valley Stream South on the previous Saturday, the team came out slow in the first quarter. They then built what they thought was a comfortable 11 point lead in the second quarter, led by Gerard VanLeuvan, who ended up with 20 points.

On Ice This Summer: Hockey and Skating Camps at Newbridge Arena
Hoping to inspire some future homegrown Olympic heroes, the Town of Hempstead's Newbridge Arena will host instructional training camps in figure skating, hockey and goaltending for youngsters 5 to 17 years of age this summer. Registration for each of the training camps is being conducted at the arena office and additional program information is available by calling 783-6181, according to Supervisor Rich Guardino.
