I would like your readers to be aware that our New York State Assemblywoman Kathleen Murray has written and introduced an important bill in the New York State Assembly. This bill, titled Seek Work Order and numbered A7350, is in the Judicial Committee. Assemblywoman Murray has written this bill for the benefit of New York State children who are not receiving child support.
This bill requires the non-custodial parent, who claims not to have a job, to seek the minimum of 10 places of employment per week, or at a frequency deemed appropriate by the court. The parent must supply the court with addresses and phone numbers that can be verified. This bill will address the issue of perjury in the family court system and help New York children get the support they need.
Many deserving children in New York State do not receive child support. This forces families to seek welfare and precludes the custodial parent from obtaining the child support the children need. Bringing that support to the income of the custodial parent can be of great benefit to the family.
Please call Assemblywoman Helene Weinstein at (718) 648-4700 to request that she bring this legislation up for a vote. Just a phone call can help us create a New York State law to help our children.
The full text of this bill can be viewed on the Internet under NYS Assembly, bill number A7350 or if you have any further questions, you may call Assemblywoman Murray's office at 731-8830.
I would like to thank Assemblywoman Murray for sponsoring this legislation and urge all concerned citizens to urge its passage in Albany.
Thank you very much for your attention to this vital human issue.
