I was happy to read in Newsday, Jan. 11, 2000 that the emergency food center was reopened in Hempstead after it had to close due to County Executive Thomas Gulotta's $9.8 million in cuts to private social agencies.

The center was reopened due to the generosity of a good-hearted private citizen of Nassau County.

Nassau County is in a bad state of affairs when our elected officials have to resort to taking food out of the mouths of the helpless poor citizens of our county to plug up the hole we are in, due to the way the money entrusted by Nassau County taxpayers is wasted by mismanagement by county officials.
