Rallying to Save Human Services
YOM Among Those Organizing Jan. 19 Protest of County Cuts
In an effort to try to save some of the funding being cut from the Nassau County Youth Board, the Mental Health and Welfare Council and the Department of Drug and Alcohol Addiction, the Human Service Coalition is planning a rally on the steps of the County Executive Building at 1 West Street at noon on Wednesday, Jan. 19.

McHugh Replaces McGann as Bishop:
During a press conference last week, Bishop John McGann, head of the Catholic Diocese of Rockville Centre, announced that his resignation had been accepted by the Vatican and that Bishop James McHugh, who had been serving as coadjutor for the past year, would assume the position.

Ted Petersen JV Wrestling Tournament
The Ted Petersen JV Wrestling Tournament was held on Wednesday, Dec. 29, at the Island Trees Middle School. A heartfelt speech was given by Island Trees teacher and wrestling official Paul McCarthy about coach and friend Ted Petersen. "Coach Pete" was a man who cared for our youth and was a coach and teacher at Island Trees for 31 years. He was committed to the promotion of respect, fairness and good sportsmanship. In his honor, this event was created.
