The eighth grade boys basketball team opened up their season against a very talented team from Salk. Although the Bulldogs were at a disadvantage when it came to size, the boys played with tremendous heart. The Dawgs fell behind early and trailed by 10 at the half. The third period started out in much the same fashion until Anthony DiDomenico exploded with eight of his game high 20 points. Kevin Fusci, who would finish with 12, added six points and the Bulldogs, who trailed 24-10, evened the score at the end of the third period at 28 apiece. The fourth period was not so kind to the Dawgs, but they did outscore Salk 16-12 in the fifth. Final score was 59-44 in favor of Salk. Bruce Davidson scored four, Anthony Thompson added three, Kevin McGovern and Peter Plaia added two each, while Michael Doscher popped in one from the foul line. Justin O'Donnell and George Fotedis pulled down key rebounds. Keep working hard boys.
The seventh grade girls volleyball team lost their opening match three games to two against Wantagh. In the first game, Elaina Curran and Melissa Medina led the team by serving for five points and three points respectively, but Wantagh was too tough in the end and they lost 15-13. The Ladydawgs came alive in the second game with a 15-5 victory. Kaitlyn Sopp served for five points, Nicole Carrazana four points and Grace Vinberg and Kaitlyn Beale served for three points as they rolled to victory. Wantagh came back with a 15-5 win in the third game. Megan Carlson served for four points. In the fourth game, the Ladydawgs fought back from a 7-1 deficit, only to lose 15-11. Kaitlyn Beale served for four points and Lori Brennan for three points in their comeback effort. In the fifth and final game, Gina Dziuba's six straight points were the highlight in a 15-10 victory. Lori Brennan contributed with four points while Kayla Estrada and Kaitlyn Sopp contributed with two points each. Megan Carlson, Rachel Davids, Kaitlyn Beale, Lori Brennan, Lauren O'Shea and Donna Braun showed great all around play throughout the match.
