William L. McDermott, of Levittown, died on Dec. 2, 1999. He was born in the Bronx in 1926 and enlisted in the US Navy at age 18. He served in the Pacific Theatre onboard the USS Blue Ridge and participated in the Battle of Leyte Gulf. Mr. McDermott's family was among the first to inhabit Levittown purchasing a home there in 1949. He worked at Grumman Aerospace and retired after 36 years of service. Husband for 53 years of Marjorie. Father and father-in-law of Eileen and Glen Maxwell, Michael and Joan, Brian, Maureen, William Jr. and Leyla and Patricia and George Fitze. Grandfather of Christopher, Patrick, Edward, Ozlem, Rose and Hans. Brother of Donald and Gerald. Arrangements were made by the Arthur F. White Funeral Home.
