On Saturday, Nov. 6, the JV Football Bulldogs played their season finale against North Shore. Although the Bulldogs played their hearts out, they came up short, losing to a tough Viking squad (7-1) by the score of 28-3. Both teams played a strong defensive game, each holding their opponent to five first downs. Unfortunately for the Bulldogs, the Vikings capitalized on four big Bulldog mistakes. The Bulldogs opened the scoring on a 30-yard field goal by Herbert Reyes. This was Reyes' first game back due to a season-long injury. A Mike Rossi end around play for 40 yards set up the field goal. Rossi ended the day with 139 all-purpose yardage. Then came the Vikings big plays. North Shore got the ball on the Bulldog 40-yard line, rushed for their first first down halfway through the second quarter. Then the Vikings scored on a screen pass that went 30 yards for the TD to take the lead 7-3. The Bulldogs got strong defensive efforts by Reyes, Matt Fiorello, Zack Strauss, Fernando Suarez and Ed Seremeta. With eight seconds left in the half, the Vikings struck again on a long 59-yard pass play. Dan Dugal and Peter Moran had a good day on special teams. Ninth graders Matt Brady and Johnny Kean did a nice job as well at their respective positions. Overall it was an exciting season for the Bulldogs. Their final record was 3-5, but could have easily been 5-3 with a few more breaks going for the Bulldogs. The Island Trees coaching staff thanks everyone for their support and interest in the program. FULL STORY
