On Friday night, two Levittown teams faced each other in a great game that came down to the last play, when Pee Wee Gold defeated Pee Wee Black 12-7.
Gold's offense, including Anthony Villa, James Lang, Eddie Richards, James DiMartino, Chris Celentani, Ryan Braithwaite, Stephen Krajci, John Kreppel and Michael DiGregorio struck early in the first quarter when Matt McBride ran the ball in for a touchdown.
Gold's defense, led by Michael DiGregorio, Kreppel, Celentani, Krajci, Braithwaite, Ryan Verhagen, Nick DiGregorio, Cameo Flores and Cordell Tomkin dominated the second and third quarters, holding Black scoreless to leave the score 6-0 going into the fourth quarter.
Black came back to score in the fourth quarter, bringing the score to 7-6, with about two minutes remaining. Gold drove the ball down the field. McBride ran for a touchdown only to have it called back due to a penalty, but Gold would not give up and continued to move the ball down the field. With only 38 seconds remaining, quarterback Thomas Schreiber faked a handoff and ran the ball in for a touchdown, making the final score 12-7.
Special mention goes to the entire team for giving 110 percent and for never giving up. Go Gold!
It was Halloween afternoon and Pee Wee White was about to face one of their toughest opponents. North Babylon came in with a record of 5-0-1 and Pee Wee White was 5-1. This game would be played on White's home turf. Pee Wee White fans were there and ready to back their boys but there would be no ghosts to haunt White's team, no goblins to get in their way, no black cats or broken mirrors to bring bad luck. There was just Pee Wee White ready to do battle and battle they did.
Both teams held each other in check for the first half. Babylon's defense was as stingy as White's in giving up yardage. Neither team could find a way to overpower the other. Just when it seemed the first half would remain scoreless, Babylon broke loose on an end run and drew first blood. The extra point was missed and the first half ended up 6-0 in favor of North Babylon.
The second half started just like the first with neither team giving an inch to its opponent's offense. It looked as though that was how the game was going to end. Pee Wee White refused to give up and in the fourth quarter an end run by Nick Ferrara put the ball in the end zone. Ferrara kicked the extra point and White was ahead 8-6. Key blocks on Ferrara's run were thrown by Dominique Alexander and Kyle Perkins. North Babylon would drive the ball down the field in the final moments of the game but White's defense held tough and stopped North Babylon as time ran out. The final score was Pee Wee White 8, North Babylon 6.
There were no individual stars in the game, it was truly a team effort. Every player on the team came to play and when they were asked to go in and relieve another player who was hurt or tired they performed brilliantly. They truly showed what team play was all about. This is a dedicated team who gave their all. The team is as follows: Dylan Muller, Patrick Higgins, Dominique Alexander, Mike Cook, Brendan Gay, JJ Castrianni, Kevin McKenna, Tyler Rosenkranz, Nick Ferrara, Sean Brophy, Eddie Valesquez, David Williams, Nicholas Thomas, Ryan Butz, Anthony Wrightington, Kyle Perkins, Ryan Bogdanowicz, Andrew McKiel and Tom Kowalski.
