On Thursday, Oct. 14, the JV Football Bulldogs defeated the Oyster Bay Baymen by the score of 22-14. The Bulldogs kept the Baymen in the game with five turnovers by fumbling. Oyster Bay returned one fumble for a touchdown.
The defense played terrific. Dondi Peterson led the charge with six solo tackles and 2 1/2 sacks. Charlie Lombardi had a solid game at the outside linebacker position - five tackles, three assists.
Offensively, the Bulldogs ran up and down the field, but fumbles prevented the Bulldogs from putting the Baymen away for good. Mike Rossi rushed for over 200 yards and scored 18 points. Danny Sullivan added two points after kicks. Paul Wigdzinski finished the scoring with a two-point conversion. The offensive line has done a tremendous job so far this season. Rossi has rushed for over 200 yards four out of five games this season. This week the grunts try to keep this incredible streak going versus Manhasset.

The team's last game of the week came against Jericho. McCauley converted a pass from Julio Barea to give the Bulldogs a 1-0 win. Once again Kostaras kept his team from being defeated with a great game in goal. Latuputty also keyed the win. The team record is now 4-2-4. The Girls JV soccer team had a tough overtime loss to Cold Spring Harbor this week. The game started out promising as Alyssa Fleming beat her defender down the wing and crossed the ball to Melanie Hallas who one-timed it into the net. After goalie Erin Dodge stopped a penalty shot to preserve the lead, Jamie Zetterberg converted a pass back from Teresa Grassi to increase it to 2-0. At the 27:00 mark of the second half, Cold Spring Harbor scored to cut the lead in half. With five minutes left in the game, Cold Spring Harbor blocked a goal kick just outside the 18-yard line and shot it back into the net. That goal seemed to deflate the girls and they were scored on in the first overtime period to lose 3-2.
The Island Trees Middle School football team marched into rebel territory and took no prisoners as they cruised to a 42-0 victory over Great Neck North. Although the Dawgs scored at will, the story of the game was the overwhelming strength of their defense as North gained one first down on the day, that coming with three minutes remaining in the fifth period. The defense, which held the Rebels to minus 50 total yards offense, was led by the spirited play of the defensive ends Michael Doscher and Ryan Aguirre who had six tackles and one sack each. Linebackers Vinny Ciaravino and Anthony DiDomenico kept moving North in the opposite direction with bone-crushing tackles in the backfield. Other key players on the defense were Kevin Yank, Evan Mastro, Bernard Loiseau, John Conigliaro, Kevin Fusci, Anthony Vecchione, Greg Schwab, Michael Courtney and Peter Plaia. Safety Andy Greges had an electrifying interception in the fourth period to cap off the game. The Bulldogs took the opening possession 60 yards in eight plays as DiDomenico hit paydirt untouched with the score. DiDomenico would finish the day with 108 yards and three touchdowns. Doscher ran the perfect reverse for 35 yards and a score as every player on the field went for the fake as Doscher waltzed into the end zone all alone. Island Trees controlled the second quarter as the offense kept the ball for the entire period that ended with a Chris Pazmino touchdown run. Capping off a perfect day was Scott Sadowski's catch of an Anthony Rinaldi scoring strike. Contributing on the ground were Joe Ciserano, Mike Wrightington, Kevin McGovern, Kevin Prykuta, Tom Carroll, Justin O'Donnell and Michael Cama. The Bulldogs run their record to 2-0 and await the Baymen of Oyster Bay in their next game.
The seventh-grade girls lost a tough one to Salk 2-0. The Lady Dawgs controlled the ball for most of the game, but just couldn't get one in the net. Gina Brewer and Caitlin Beale both created good scoring opportunities up front. Jessica Ostrowski, Nicole Carrazana and Stephanie Werling all contributed with excellent goalkeeping.
