It was interesting to read that three stalwart members of the Levittown "Bored" of Education appeared at the Levittown Property Owners Association's (LPOA) September meeting to defend their honor against allegations that they are merely "rubber stamps" for the district's administration.

I found it ironic that Mr. Moriarity, board president, according to the LPOA article, "...invited anyone interested to write the administration or attend board budget meetings." I attended the board's so-called budget hearing which was held on July 6 prior to the scheduled July 14 budget re-vote. What a joke! Without going into the details of why this "hearing" was illegally convened, it should be noted that only one other resident bothered to attend. Mr. Moriarity, in response to my request for a breakdown and cost analysis of the monies included in the revised budget, informed me that the figures were unavailable. In addition, he stated that he left his copy of the budget at home.

Another member of the "bored," a deep thinker in the mold of Ayn Rand, the objectivist philosopher, informed me that "the purpose of a budget hearing is for school board members to obtain community input and not answer questions from the community!" For the life of me, I still haven't figured out exactly what input the Levittown School "Bored" needed at this "budget hearing." A year ago, this same individual, when asked what motivated her to run for the Levittown School Board stated, "Well, I attend all the school board meetings and might as well be on the school board." How about that for motivation!

Incidentally, there are no official minutes of this "budget hearing" other than a sanitized version of comments contained in the Public be Heard portion of the July 6 regular meeting. According to this version of the meeting, "He also asked if a copy of the budget was available to look at."

I've said this before; however, it is worth repeating. Levittown residents who are facing a 9 3/4 percent tax increase and similar increases in the foreseeable future, had better wake up!

If Mr. Moriarity is really sincere about the board's independence, then let him prove it. When was the last time that anyone in the Levittown School District heard from a member of the school board? School board meetings, for the past dozen or so years, have become superintendent of school meetings with a comatose school board sitting around, dozing or drinking cokes, while waiting to "rubber stamp" the latest administrative scheme.

I know that I have an awful lot of questions to ask him!
